We haven't posted in an embarrassingly long time...and there's no excuse other than we've been busy, really, really busy! When I (Rebekah) look back over the last year it feels like we have lived a million lifetimes!!!
Some highlights of 2009 (in no particular order:)
- Our new year's resolution was to run a 1/2 Marathon, and we ended up running TWO! We ran the Country Music 1/2 Marathon here in Nashville in April with Ryan's sister Keri (who came with our precious niece, Aileen!) Then, in September we traveled up to Virginia Beach to run the Rock and Roll 1/2 Marathon with Ryan's ENTIRE family, and my sweet friend Lindsey Jones. Our performance and finish times improved, and we are looking forward to our next race!
- We both left jobs that were life draining and made us miserable. Our work life since then has been eclectic to say the least...however, we had some amazing work opportunities in '09! Ryan started playing drums for Carl Cartee this summer when he spent 5 consecutive weeks on the road (the longest we have ever been apart in the 4+ years we have been married!) He's had other drumming opportunities, as well as a significant amount of video editing work. In his spare time (what's that!?!?) he has been doing a little substitute teaching. I have been a part-time nanny to two sweet kids- a 6 year old boy and a 3 year old girl. I have too many great stories to tell that I won't even start! I have learned so much by doing this, and feel blessed to have to opportunity to show Christ's love to these kids every day I am with them. The $$$ situation has been very up and very down- which we expected when we started freelancing- but is still very stressful. Daily we have been forced to trust God, and He has provided for ALL of our needs. In some ways, this year has been one of the greatest work years ever!
-We celebrated our 4th wedding anniversary in Antigua! It was an incredible trip- perfect from beginning to end. We had amazing weather, a beautiful beach at a ridiculously luxurious resort! I could go on and on, so I will stop before I get annoying :) God has been so good to us these last 4 years, enabling us to grow in each other and in Him. It hasn't always been easy, but I wouldn't want to walk through life with anyone else.
-We've both gotten to travel a lot...here's the **not inclusive** list! Ryan has played drums all over the country (and even out of the country- in Canada!) We spent a weekend in Chattanooga, TN for Valentine's Day. I got to fly home to surprise my mom for her birthday at the end of February. I went on a girl's trip to Dallas, TX in June with my friends Lindsey and Laura. In May and July I was in the weddings of two wonderful college friends- Amanda's in Pennsylvania, and Windsor's in Delaware. In September we spent a long, relaxing weekend with our friends Eric and Laura at Navarre Beach, FL. I got to visit Amanda and her new husband John in Kansas City in October, and then Ryan and I spent 10 days around Halloween with his family at Disney World!
-My brother Joel finally moved to Nashville!!! He lived with us for 6 weeks- and in that time bought a car, started a new (awesome) job here, and bought a HOUSE that is only a half mile away from ours!!! I am so enjoying having family in town. Now if only we could convince the rest of our families...:)
-We have had tons of houseguests!!! At least once a month we've had visitors. Our guestroom bed is always made up and if you want to visit us in 2010, you might want to make your "reservations" early!
Well, I think I'm about done with the highights...although I'm sure I've forgotten plenty. I don't like excuses...but It's hard to catch up after missing 8 months!!!
In closing, it is clear that 2009 had tons of great moments. But it has also had some pretty low lows that I won't go into. We definitely now have a greater understanding of despair, heartbreak, and even loss. In the midst of all of that, God has been SO GOOD to us. We believe He has a plan for us, and is in control of our lives. If the only thing that comes from our difficult times is that we grow closer to Him---then it has all been worth it. As the year comes to a close, we are looking forward to new beginnings, and seeing what God has in store for us in 2010!
I'll make another post soon- with a pictorial year in review!
